Arknights

Started playing this game on Monday. It's a PVE tower defense gacha strategy rpg game with no toxic nor frustrating PVP gameplay. I've constantly seen this game being recommended in the gaming forums and finally gave it a try this week.

Although there is a gacha mechanic it doesn't prevent you from completing most of the missions with normal units. Of course there are overpowered game breaking units but you don't need them to pass any stage so long as you are competent to place the right type of roles in strategic positions.

Not sure how long this game can keep my attention but I'm gonna give it a good try. It's different from the RPG gacha genre so it may or may not hold my interest. At least it keeps me entertained for awhile.

Children Art: Food Pyramid

We were surprised when 萱萱 started drawing a pyramid of food groups. She is clearly a visual learner and could replicate the pyramid through memory of what she saw in school.

Paw Patrol Parade

The kids love the Paw Patrol cartoons. They will regularly sing the theme song and ask for youtube videos on them. As doting parents we bought them a lot of Paw Patrol toys, so much that 萱萱 was able to put together a parade for the pups.

Extending the Fridge And Washer Base

We have been wanting to do this for the longest time. Our fridge has been giving us lots of problems with the freezing and the motor gets pretty loud often. I always suspected it was due to the lack of space around the fridge for it to dissipate heat.

So the base was extended by about 30cm and now we have a good 5-6cm on each side of the fridge. Hopefully this helps. This also gives us the flexibility to get a 2 door fridge in the future.

Home Cooked Goodness: Best Yosenabe

I have a staple order at Sushi-Teh, Chirashi-don and Yosenabe. So for the longest time (years), the only time I have Yosenabe was when we dine at Sushi-Teh. That has all changed, Meimei now makes a mean mean Yosenabe that hands down beats any other. This is the only Yosenabe I'll be having going forward, period.

Arm Prints For National Day

萱萱 was excited to receive 'stickers' from school for the National Day celebrations. It's simple fun so we indulged her when she asked that everyone gets one on their arms.

Dressing Up For National Day At School

I love the matching outfits. I don't think they can grasp the concept of national day yet. For them it's a fun day where they can play dress-up at school and potentially have extra snacks and gifts.

Splitting the Oreo's

You would think all kids like the sweet and crunchy taste of Oreos. But no no no, 阳阳 only likes the chocolate biscuit and not the sweet vanilla filling. Usually kids will be so excited to get treats and pop them immediately into their mouths. But here 阳阳 is patiently peeling off the whites. We already knew he doesn't like sweet stuff but to see him splitting the whites out of the Oreo's is just so cute.

New Pirelli Tyres

I was advised to change the tyres on the Caddy during the recent maintenance. Oddly enough, they did not have the same model of Goodyear Efficient Grip tyres in stock. Even more bewildering was the attitude of the service rep, who didn't seem interested in getting me to change my tyres at Volkswagen. No matter, I asked him to get back to me with a quote and I'll compare it with 3rd party tyre shops. I rather get it done at Volkswagen but that's not much of a choice if they don't carry it.

He came back a few days later with a quote of $1,200 for a set of 4 tyres. I had search on the internet and some were offering it at almost half the quote. So even the lacklustre followup, I decided to get it changed at another workshop. Because the Caddy isn't a common vehicle many workshops did not carry it.

The technician offered that Pirelli tyres were quieter and safer for a family vehicle so I went with it instead even though it cost $60 more than the Goodyear.

The replacement took about 40 minutes and I was able to watch the technicians work. If this had been done at Volkswagen it would have probably taken half a day to queue for my turn.
