Roundup Sep'26

Another illness to mark the month. Hopefully the popular saying "bad things come in threes" is true and this is the last of it. If I have not say it I'll say it again ... it really makes you appreciate the simple things in life. Like being able to have dinner together with family or being there to hold each other's hands.

I Love Leather Chairs

I've been thinking of getting a new study chair since falling sick. I think the posture of the Ikea chair isn't good for my back. Especially when I fall asleep on it. So we were at the Hinomi showroom at Aperia Mall last week to check out a study chair. Originally we were thinking of a Secretlabs chair but viewing the chair requires making an appointment. So we went to Hinomi instead where they have a walk-in showroom.

I'm so glad we went to Hinomi. We were trying out the H2 Pro and X2 Pro and almost deciding between the 2. Meimei was trying to sign up for a membership so I walked around the showroom and happen to chance on a leather chair. I immediately asked what model this was .... it's not on the online webstore. Turns out it was a similar model to the H2 Pro but in genuine leather. The downside is that it's not foldable like the H2 Pro.

The cost of it was also 40% more. I couldn't make a decision immediately because it's an expensive choice. We decided to sit on it and have lunch first. Meimei can tell I really liked the leather upholstery and gave me a nice push to get it. We went back right after lunch and sealed the deal. Thank you dear dear!

So the chair came today. There is a slight defect with it where it is slanted to the right. But the chair is so comfortable I decided not to pursue the small flaw. I really like the leather chair ... this might one of those situation where I can never go back ... I doubt I'll ever take to a mesh or cloth study chair again.

Don't Like PU Leather

Recently I've been getting dark dirt on my ears and sometimes on the study table. I didn't know what it was until I found that the fake leather on my work headphones has disintegrated. Generally I hate using anything that is made with faux leather but this is from the office IT catalogue. I suppose they go for cheap more than anything else.

A Fishy Forest

Hmmm is this an aquatic plants farm? Where are the fishes ;-P It's so crowded it's like trying to spot rodents on a forest walk .... you can't see them!

Spectacular Nightlight

Meimei bought a fancy nightlight for the kids and I got to experience it today. It's back to night calls again for me so I've not been sleeping with the kids the past week.

The kids were very excited to show off all the fancy designs. I especially like the whales in clouds.

Specky Girl

It's finally happened. We tried to delay it but with her habits it's always more likely to happen than not. Meimei brought her to Owndays to make a pair today. I do have to say she looks good with glasses. Well at least there's a positive side to it.

The Mystery Eye Cloud: Day 2 Going To A&E

During lunch I was already complaining that there are more floaters in my eye and I'm starting to see hundreds of micro spots in my left eye. As we drove home via ECP, we made the decision to go to CGH to have it checked out.

As I wait for the initial assessment at the A&E, I got a pen and paper from a nurse and drew up the problem for the doctors.

The drawing is pretty self explanatory. Some crap is happening on my right eye ... am I going blind?

It didn't take long before I saw a doctor and then she referred me to the eye department at the other side of the hospital. At the eye center I was sent for a series of checks, imaging, scans etc. Eventually a senior doctor saw me and shared the bad news. I have retina tearing in my right eye at the 10 and 2 o'clock positions. There are also thinning at 8 o'clock.

Thankfully I came in early they say. Because this is the early signs of retina detachment. It could still happen but the doctor scheduled me for an immediate laser scarring procedure. Hopefully the scarring will seal up the tearing and prevent further deterioration or detachment. A retina detachment will require surgery to reattach.

We were considered an emergency case so they had to squeeze us into their busy schedule. It wasn't immediate and we had to wait for the doctor to be free. By the time we were done with the procedure the place was empty. She then referred us to SGH National Eye Center for a senior associate professor to have a look at it tomorrow morning.

It's wild I'm getting a chain of medical problems each month. And each seems to be independent of each other.

Artisan Ramen at Mensho Tokyo SG

I was accompanying Meimei for her SGH appointment and then we decided to have lunch at Raffles City Shopping Mall. I had a ramen craving so Meimei recommend we try Mensho Tokyo SG.

I was blown away by the flavour burst from the rich ingredients. Every bite was a different taste and texture. And yet it all comes together nicely and no one ingredient over shadows another. It is definitely one to remember.

Roundup Aug'26

It's an uneventful month. Thank goodness. Spent most of the month on home rest. Getting better everyday.

A Fishy Expansion

It's so hard to say no to Meimei.

I drove her to 85 today to look at fishes at the pet shop .... I'm complicit.

Meimei couldn't contain her glee and took a picture to share in the family chat while we drove home.

Nyama: "哇,终于得偿所愿“

Yeeyee: "惨了。傻鱼要失宠了。”

So we now have a failed migration which turned into an expansion.

A Fishy Migration

A new bigger was delivered the last couple of days. The plan is to migrate Nabbie to the bigger tank.

Apple 傻瓜机

Hahaha kudos to Meimei to think about making the iPhones a 傻瓜机. That definitely helps to control the kids' access to apps. I guess we are in the majority of parents worrying about the negative influences phone usage on their kids. Meimei found videos and write-up on how to do this online.

Back At Work

They started SIT1 last week. The rest of the team are in India but obviously I couldn't travel there. So now I have to follow India time and work during lunch. I'm home bound anyways so everyday I get cooked lunch which I will bring into the study to eat. Everyone's asking me to take it easy, have more rest etc. But at the same time I get pings to asking where I am on testing. A contradiction ... the reality is that everyone wishes I'm back to normal and being able to deliver.

There's no rest for the wicked.

The Mystery Lump: Day 10 Still The Same

It's been 10 days and the lump still stays the same. I suppose that is a good thing it didn't grow any bigger or escalate into something else. I've been taking pictures daily to show Meimei and she is still worried about it. We'll gonna let it be for another week to see if it goes away on its own.

A Fishy Celebration

Meimei purposefully 3D printed a red and white basket for Nabby to celebrate National Day together .....
